Tenbury Applefest in an annual Event held in the Town to celebrate the Mighty Apple and it's importance to Tenbury Wells.
When we started to work on the Event we were told that we needed to make it sustainable as there were no more Grants available. In the first year we achieved that and for the last 5 years it has held it's own.
Developing the offering to visitors has been key in making it successful and also by offering entertainment suitable for all ages.
The event consists of an Apple Marquee displaying circa 300 varieties of apples provided by local grower Frank P Matthews Ltd and apple identification, advice on tree planting and ongoing care, apple pressing, sales of apple juice and cider.
Outside you will find traditional style entertainment such as Morris Dancing, Brass Bands, school choirs and either a juggler or Punch & Judy, with owls, reptiles, meerkats and Alpacas in attendance as well as a wide variety of trade stands.
Commercial caterers to suit all tastes are in attandance with a Bar for those who prefer something stronger than tea or coffee.
Stall holders and caterers are limited in their categories to ensure choice for the visitors but also ensuring that the vendors have strong opportunities for sales
The Event is funded by Sponsors (as well as the gate fee) and the organisers produce a 28 page programme which has a mix of information about apples, sponsors and paid for advertising.
2017 saw a very successful Window Dressing Competition in the Town with over 70% of the windows taking part.
We are committed to 2018 and are already preparing for another event that is now seeing Coach Companies committed to again bringing visitors from Macclesfield.
